The Scylla ISS Programme comprises a team of more than 60 staff covering east/west coast of Australia and is responsible for the conduct of Planned and Operational Maintenance activities in support of the Collins Class Submarines. The primary systems supported comprise the Sonar System (Inboard and Outboard), Communications Mast, Towed Array and other Thales equipment fitted to the Collins Class Submarines. The support of these systems include maintaining material capability, material readiness and the transition of capability upgrades into service. Purpose of the Position : The Integration and Test Engineer is responsible for supporting the software integration, verification and validation of the SCYLLA Sonar System. The Integration and Test Engineer is responsible for contributing to the operational support of the Collins Class Submarine Scylla sonar system and its supporting systems/equipment both on-board the Collins Class Submarines, within the land based Combat Systems Support Facility and within the Thales Rockingham facility. Responsibilities : Participate in the design, preparation, implementation and execution of software integration tasks. Investigating and troubleshooting software issues within a Unix environment. Investigating and troubleshooting layer 2 and 3 Ethernet networks. Provide operational support to Scylla sonar platforms and supporting systems. Windows application installation and Unix application compilation and installation. Produce documentation to a high standard including (but not limited to) test procedures/reports, Set-To-Work procedures and reports and user manuals. Participate in the design, preparation and execution of various levels of testing. Participate in the design, implementation and maintenance of software test environments. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS : All candidates must be eligible for a Defence Security Clearance. The suitable candidate may need to be ITARS cleared; therefore we need to know if you hold any other passport other than Australian, or have dual citizenship. Occasional Interstate travel may be required. Drivers Licence Class C as a minimum. QUALIFICATIONS : Tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering or related discipline. ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE : Network administration and troubleshooting skills. Experience with investigating and troubleshooting Unix based operating systems (Redhat Linux 6 and 7 Preferable). Understanding of common Unix shell scripts including bash and csh. Troubleshooting software applications running in a Unix environment. Strong Unix system administration skills. Basic Windows administration skills. DESIRABLE : Software development experience (Java and C/C++ Programming Languages). Ability to capture and analyse network traffic using commercial tools such as Wireshark and tcpdump. Prior experience in Defence, sonar systems and working on Naval vessels. Together. Safer.
